Trains

Clackity clack... Clackity clack...
Beats the rhythm of the track.
Trekking deep into the night,
Straight on through to morning light.

Whether freight or passenger,
The message is the same to her.
"Just keep rolling, moving on.
Dawn to dust... Dusk 'til dawn."

The fate of nations on her back.
Clackity clack... Clackity clack.

I love this poem, Dennis. I really miss the days of when a train came through our little town just about every day. So nostalgic. There is talk of it coming back again... for now I'll think of your poem, as it brought such warm, wonderful feelings. Thanks!

Dennis,
I love this poem. When I was growing up in a very small town, the train would go through town blowing its whistle. The tracks were torn out, but recently new tracks were put down.
As I sit at my computer early in the mornings, I can hear the whistle in the distance and I'm drawn back to yesteryears.
