The Fires of Beltane

The flames reach out in spite of the
Torrents of rain falling down from
The evening skies,
And you welcome me to your endless night
Filled with passionate pleasure
Beyond the moonrise.
Nothing can stop the fate that befalls
The lovers embracing
In ritual rites,
Gasping and grasping the smoke from
Her fires, engulfed in the flood of
Her pagan delights.
Gods and goddesses watch from their
Mountaintops neatly positioned between earth and sky.
Judging our worth from the weight
Of our sacrifice.  Sealing our fate
In the blink of an eye.
We are the pawns.
We front the battle.
Never look back.
Never ask why.
